A Church Committed to Sustainability – But Facing Unique Challenges
Victoria Hall Methodist Church approached Fusion Solar UK with a clear mission: to reduce the church's growing energy bills and support its commitment to environmental sustainability – all while making use of a local authority grant.
But the project was anything but straightforward.
Being a Grade II listed building, the church presented a number of technical and regulatory hurdles:
Poor access to high-level roofs
Complex, fragile slate roofing with multiple pitches
Challenging cable routes through an old structure
The need for future-proofing the system without needing to re-erect expensive scaffolding later
To make matters trickier, the grant required the use of a local installer, and the church had already struggled to find anyone willing – or able – to take it on.
With 14+ years of experience working on complex sites, Fusion Solar UK accepted the challenge and delivered a custom system tailored for a listed building, with long-term value and minimal disruption.
Here’s what we provided:
✅ A 32.76kWp solar PV system, fully optimised for roof layout and shading
✅ Discreet cable routing and mounting, protecting the historical features
✅ Infrastructure designed for future expansion, with cabling and connections already in place
✅ Compliance with heritage regulations and planning requirements
✅ No need for repeat scaffolding – saving thousands on future upgrades

26,675kWh of clean energy generated annually
£9,389 saved on electricity bills per year
6-year payback period
19.3% return on investment
6.8 tonnes of CO₂ avoided annually
Thanks to careful design and precision installation, Victoria Hall Methodist Church now benefits from significant savings, a smaller carbon footprint, and a system that’s ready to grow as more funding becomes available.
At Fusion Solar UK, we understand the regulatory, structural, and access challenges that come with installing solar on churches, historic buildings, schools, and public facilities. Whether you're applying for grants, tied to local supplier rules, or need a design that considers future upgrades, we’re here to help.
